I WROTE THIS FOR SOME OTHER GROUP, BUT I FEEL IT IS WORTH SHARING HERE
Though the instant controversy has no bearing with NLC but as the timing of this controversy is aimed at destroying the peace of our nation, and that to remedy this malady education is necessary, I conducted a research to educate myself. Following is the finding of my research:
*India Vs. Bharat and Hindustan*
Hindustan is a name given by the Mughal invaders to the indus valley civilization whereas "India" was the much awed land of richness and grandeur which used to give sleepless nights to the Europeans and the British. Christopher Columbus was so enamoured by the name of Indus valley civilization that he took a ship and anchored it at the West Indies and declared that he has reached India!
According to the Manusmṛti (2.21–22) North India (i.e., India north of the Vindhyas) is also known as Āryāvarta (Sanskrit: आर्यावर्त, "abode of the Aryans).
Āryāvarta is a name for North India, where the culture of the Indo-Aryans was based, in classical Sanskrit literature. The Manu Smriti (2.22) gives the name to "the tract between the Himalaya and the Vindhya ranges, from the Eastern (Bay of Bengal) to the Western Sea (Arabian Sea)".[
The name Bhārata (भारत) came from emperor Bharata and it has been used as a *self-ascribed* name by some people of the Indian subcontinent and the Republic of India. The designation Bhārata appears in the official Sanskrit name of the country, Bhārata Gaṇarājya. Before this it has been mentioned in Vishnu Purana (2,1,31), Vayu Purana (33,52), Linga Purana (1,47,23), Brahmanda Purana (14,5,62), Agni Purana (107,11–12), Skanda Purana, Khanda (37,57) and Markandaya Purana (50,41), where the designation Bharata Varsha is used. Varsha herein means continent.
Vishnu Purāna mentions:
ऋषभो मरुदेव्याश्च ऋषभात भरतो भवेत्भरताद भारतं वर्षं, भरतात सुमतिस्त्वभूत Rishabha was born to Marudevi, Bharata was born to Rishabha, Bharatavarsha (India) arose from Bharata, and Sumati arose from Bharata.—Vishnu Purana (2,1,31)
ततश्च भारतं वर्षमेतल्लोकेषुगीयतेभरताय यत: पित्रा दत्तं प्रतिष्ठिता वनम (विष्णु पुराण, २,१,३२)
This country is known as Bharatavarsha since the times the father entrusted the kingdom to the son Bharata and he himself went to the forest for ascetic practices—Vishnu Purana (2,1,32)uttaraṃ yatsamudrasya himādreścaiva dakṣiṇam
। "The country (varṣam) that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bhāratam; there dwell the descendants of Bharata."- Vishnu Purana
Shindu, Sindhu or Indus river was known to the ancient Iranians in Avestan as Hindu, in Sanskrit as Sindhu, to Assyrians(the assuras) (as early as the 7th century BC) as Sinda, to the Persians as Ab-e-sind, to the Greeks as Indos, to the Romans as Indus, to the Pashtuns as Abasind, to the Arabs as Al-Sind, to the Chinese as Sintow, and to the Javanese as Santri. In Pali, Síndhu means "river, stream" and refers to the Indus River in particular.
The word "Indus" is the romanised form of the ancient Greek word "Indós" (Ἰνδός), borrowed from the old Persian word "Hinduš" which is in turn borrowed from the Sanskrit word "Sindhu".
Therefore, my dear friends, instead of digging into the subjects which our great great grandfathers have suitably dealt with, with their superior learning, lets concentrate on NLC activities🙏🏼
