Whatsapp free calls for select users in India

Whatsapp has started enabling free call services to some users in India and could soon roll out a similar feature across the world.

Currently, only select Android users are being given the new feature, but it might soon expand to iOS devices as well.

The free voice call feature was widely anticipated ever since WhatsApp chief executive Jan Koum, first made the announcement last February at the Mobile World Congress.

UAE users would be keenly watching as to when Whatsapp could roll out the feature in the UAE and most importantly if it would work here.

Both UAE telecom providers Etisalat and Du have started giving out Whatsapp for free to users who recharge their talk time for a specific amount.

Whatsapp is not the first chat client to introduce free voice calls. A similar feature on BlackBerry Messenger has been there for well over a year but continues to remain scrambled here in the UAE.
