Dubai Airports takes top spot for international passenger traffic

Dubai Airports said on Tuesday the total passengers in 2014 totalled 70.47 million, up 6.1 per cent on year, taking over as the top spot for international passenger traffic, and expects 79 million passengers this year.
The airport witnessed robust passenger traffic growth of 7.5 per cent in December with 6,498,573 passengers passing through the facility compared to 6,047,126 recorded in the corresponding month last year, it said in a statement.
“The shared goal is to make Dubai a global centre of aviation and we are nearing that goal thanks to an open skies policy, a friendly business environment, Dubai’s growing attractiveness as a centre for trade, commerce and tourism, growing network connectivity due to the rapid expansion of Emirates and flydubai and timely investment in aviation infrastructure,” said Shaikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said Dubai International would boost its annual capacity to 90 million passengers this year with the opening of Concourse D - a new hall for arrivals and departures.
