You are back from holidays, look at your electricity and water bill and are
shocked.
With your house closed for weeks, you still have a got a
very high bill.
That is a complaint that is no more being treated in
isolation with Emirates Society for Consumer Protection now taking up the matter
on a priority at the federal level.
According to a report in Emarat Al Youm, the consumer body
has confirmed the problem with water and electricity bills across all emirates
and is now in talks with the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) to
install smart meters.
These metres are tamper-proof and take the readings
automatically through fiber optic cables.
The consumer body said it was acting after it had received
a deluge of complaints from consumers in different emirates during the past
three months related to electricity and water bills.
