No more free parking in JLT

Residents of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), who are currently enjoying free parking, will soon have to buy "parking permits" if they haven't bought one yet or need an additional parking bay, Emirates 24|7 reveals.

Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC), in an email sent to a Mary J, a JLT resident, said the centre was finalising a solution and would issue JLT parking permits for those who require additional parking spaces.

The JLT parking permit will essentially be a license to look for a space within a specific group of available bays located behind the parking barriers. The centre also urges residents to speak to their developer's to find out if they have any additional parking space to lease or sell.

The email further states that barriers have been currently activated only in Clusters B and D, and the JLT parking permit scheme will shortly be announced, launched and implemented in these clusters.

“It will be applied to other clusters as the barriers are activated.

“We do not yet have a final programme for activation of the parking barriers across JLT,” the email noted.

No details on the fees for the permits were revealed.

Seasonal parking permits/cards issued by Dubai's Road and Transport Agency currently costs Dh1,500 and Dh2,500 per annum, respectively.

The DMCC has said parking barriers have been activated to ensure that those people who have purchased the right to exclusive use of parking garages can park their vehicles, sell or lease their spaces.
