Massive Push For Food And Agro Processing

Already the Spice Garden of India, Kerala is looking to take its agro and food processing sector to the next level. The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) has acquired over 400 acres of land for setting up food processing units. The state is developing a Marine Park at Beypore for the seafood industry, a Kerala Park for coconut at Thrissur, a Spices Park at Idukki, two Mega Food Parks in Wayanad and Kinaloor.
At an Assocham meeting in New Delhi, Chief Minister Shri. Oommen Chandy held up these initiatives as huge entrepreneurial opportunities.
With 1,300 food processing units operational and a variety of fruits and vegetables and spices available this is another area the state hopes would attract large scale investment. Proposed new biotech parks would provide additional support for horticulture and floriculture sector
