Twenty two countries. A trip to South Africa on the anvil. Total cost - Rs 2.05
billion (Dh14 million).
That's the record-breaking price tag President Pratibha Patil's wanderlust
foreign visits have cost the public exchequer.
Since assuming office as the country's first woman President in July 2007,
Patil has undertaken 12 foreign trips covering 22 countries across four
continents.
Surpassing the record of all her predecessors, Patil has four more months to
go for her five-year tenure.
Air India incurred over Rs 1.69 billion on use of chartered aircraft, always
a Boeing 747-400, on the foreign visits, mostly accompanied by Patil's family
members, as revealed by a series of Right to Information (RTI) applications.
A visit to Bhutan was covered by a smaller jet.
