Vishwaroopam to release in TN on Feb 7
The 10-day pre-screening drama for actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan ended on Monday, with the Madras high court closing all writ petitions filed after the Tamil Nadu government authorities banned his film Vishwaroopam.
The actor has said his film will release in Tamil Nadu on February 7 after successful negotiations with protesting Muslim groups that had earlier demanded a ban. The actor thanked the state government, fellow actors and fans for helping him release the movie in a statement that he issued on Monday.
Earlier, advocate-general A Navaneethakrishnan and, senior counsel for Kamal, P S Raman, mentioned the matter before Justice S Rajeswaran, and informed the court that the issue had been settled amicably.
"Pursuant to the amicable settlement of the issues between the film producers and Muslim organisations, all district collectors in the state have withdrawn the orders earlier passed under Section 144 of CrPC, suspending the exhibition of the film, thereby paving the way for the peaceful release of the film in Tamil Nadu," a common memorandum filed before the court said.
