Etisalat, a UAE telecom operator, has slashed charges by almost 70 per cent
for international calls under its new per second Wasel billing
plan.
Customers subscribing will be charged only 0.5 fils per second
compared to 99 fils per minute. The plan will offer per-second billing with the
same price valid for all day, every day. However, there will be a set-up fee of
Dh1 per call.
A company call centre employee said they were not yet aware
of the new offer and hence could not share more details.
The new plan
will include all networks in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and China besides
etisalat numbers in Egypt and Sri Lanka.
Wasel customers have to dial
*141# to join the new plan.
Last month, etisalat introduced a new
postpaid tariff plan, which allows users to design their own payment plan and
make savings with per-second billing with reduced voice and data prices.
Under the “New Postpaid” package customers will have to pay 25 fils per
minute for local calls and 50 fils per minute for international calls. All calls
are billed on per second basis, which brings additional savings for subscribers
making calls for less than a minute. In response to the increasing demand for
data among UAE users, etisalat also reduced charges by 50 per cent through the
introduction of a 1GB package at Dh50.
