Maj Genenal Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, revealed at a press conference on Monday that the monitoring device, which is fitted with a sensor, a video, a still camera, 3G internet and a warning device, will be installed in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Dubai Police are in the process of getting the device patented and obtaining the copyright, as they said it’s the first of its kind in the world.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said that Dubai Police receive large numbers of complaints from people with special needs about healthy drivers parking in their spots. Statistics from Dubai Traffic Police showed there were 8,371 fines issued to people last year who parked in spaces reserved for the handicapped without having a permit and 9,893 fines in 2012. The fine for parking in this reserved parking without a permit is Dh1,000 and four black points.
