UAE residents will enjoy a long weekend this month.
Officials on Tuesday announced Sunday, May 25 will be a public holiday for both public and private sector workers to commemorate the Islamic holiday of Isra Wal Miraj.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Labour and Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR).
The holiday falls on Monday, May 26, but was moved to Sunday under a UAE Cabinet law which allows a holiday falling midweek to be moved to the start or end of the week.
Isra Wal Miraj falls on the 27th day of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar. It marks an important date in Islam's history, where Prophet Mohammed made a journey from Mecca to heaven.
