Buy tickets only from well-known travel agencies, cautions Dubai Police

With summer setting in and people making holiday plans, Dubai Police has urged residents and visitors to purchase travel tickets only from renowned travel agencies and accredited tour operators.

Of late there have been cases of fraud, according to Dubai Police General Headquarters. There are also reports of stolen credit cards used for booking tickets, reported Al Bayan.

Similarly, people from outside the UAE are also seen to be involved in such travel fraud where they promise offers and low prices on tickets. People caught in such fraud will face legal action, warned police.

Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation, said, the number of people purchasing air tickets have increased now as the summer holidays are nearing. And some fraudsters also issue fake tickets.

Maj-Gen Mansouri said a few people who were managing such businesses from outside UAE have been arrested. They had managed to hack bank websites and offer tickets at lower prices.

Lt Col Salem Salmeen, Acting Director of anti- electronic crimes, Dubai Police, also said that most of such fraudsters who offer cheap discounts often hack websites of banks and other financial institutions and book tickets.

He explained that after hacking websites of banks they steal credit card details of clients and book tickets to multiple destinations.
