The world’s most expensive dinner
HE WORLD’S most expensive dinner will be hosted in (where else?) Dubai. The event will take place on the helipad at the Burj Al Arab, the iconic luxury hotel that defines Dubai, and is in aid of a special charity. There will only be 12 diners and they will pay an astonishing $2,700 per head. Here’s the ultimate irony: the once-in-a-lifetime dinner is designed to raise money for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which feeds the poor and hungry across the planet. The High Table dinner experience will take place on March 13 and will serve as the grand finale to the inaugural Dubai Food Festival. The venue has been chosen for its panoramic view across the Arabian Sea and the Dubai skyline, and is already famous for attention-catching events, including Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy hitting golf balls from the helipad into the Arabian Sea. It was also the chosen stage for the centenary celebrations of sportscar maker Aston Martin; Andre Agassi and Roger Federer have played tennis on the helipad and, most recently, it was host to a spectacular demonstration of a ‘drift’ by Formula One champions, the Red Bull racing team.
