The Al Ain Traffic Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, confiscated 147 driving licenses and cancelled one license last February.
Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that one of the reasons why they took the driving licenses was because the drivers reached the limit of 24 traffic points.
He said that reaching the maximum limit of traffic points happens when a driver commits a number of violations, for example: a truck driver dangerously overtaking other vehicles (24 points), driving recklessly in a way that poses a danger to others or racing on the roads (12 points), or not stopping when a driver causes an accident that results in causalities, as well as other violations.
He said confiscating driving licenses is considered one of the preventative measures to stop reckless drivers from causing harm to themselves and others. This is divided into different degrees and categories, starting with pulling licenses for three months the first time, then six months, then for one year, and then finally revoking the license permanently.
