Al-Fahidi souq is all set for its official opening, with the Dubai Municipality handing over the keys to shop owners who won the auction.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said permits have been issued to shop owners to carry out decoration works.
“We expect to officially open the market in the end of the first quarter of 2014,” he added.
The market, which is located in Bur Dubai, is built according to the green building specifications.
“It is designed to become one of the most attractive green buildings in Dubai. Its energy saving systems, natural lighting arrangements, eco-friendly building materials and insulation methods altogether make it an exemplary green edifice.”
It includes modern techniques to save energy and water consumption considerably, where the percentage of energy savings is 45 per cent and that of water savings is 20 per cent compared to conventional systems.
The souq is built at a cost of Dh50 million and resembles Souq Naif in Deira in terms of its traditional architecture as it combines ancient and modern spirits of culture and trade.
