Twice the size of Disneyland, construction of sci-fi theme park in Dubai commences

               
Originally launched in 2005, it was slated to be completed by 2010 but was put on hold when the impact of the global economic crisis hit Dubai's real estate and construction industries.

Construction work has moved forward on the site of the theme park planned at Dubai City of Arabia development, with the first amusement rides set to be shipped to the UAE later this year.
The erecting of the mega space frame at IMG Worlds of Adventure, the themed entertainment development being developed by Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group and situated within City of Arabia is underway at the site alongside on Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.
In addition to the external structure works, the various rides to be incorporated into the project are being manufacturing at various sites and are expected to be shipped to the UAE later this year.
IMG Worlds of Adventure will include four zones themed around various attractions. In June 2012, it was announced Marvel Entertainment, the creator of popular comic book heroes X-Men and The Avengers, was to lend its name to one of the zones, which will feature retail outlets, dining facilities and interactive entertainment.
An additional zone will be themed around the Cartoon Network, which owns intellectual property to children’s series Ben10, and The Lost Valley, which will be the first of its kind in the theme park industry and will include animatronic dinosaurs and rollercoaster rides.
