The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, or Dewa, has launched a new campaign to raise awareness among residents of Dubai on the rational consumption of electricity and water, preservation of natural resources, and protection of the environment.
This is in support of the “Green Economy for Sustainable Development” initiative, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which was adopted by Dubai Government to reduce global warming, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
The new Maintaining AC Temperature to 24°C campaign targets residential areas in Dubai in its first phase, where 60 per cent of their total electricity consumption goes towards air-conditioning. By shifting room temperatures to 24°C, residents can effectively reduce pressure on their air conditioning, as well as their monthly bills, which in turn reduces carbon emissions and mitigates the impact of global warming.
“In fulfillment of the vision of the Dubai Government to contribute to the reduction of global warming, by finding sustainable solutions for the production and consumption of electricity, we at the Dewa work under the umbrella of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy to launch many initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of rational consumption, in line with Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy demand by 30 per cent by the year 2030. The new Maintaining AC Temperature to 24°C campaign is an important initiative to protect the environment,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of the Dewa.
