An Emirates flight from Dubai to Manila had to be diverted to Kolkata over
the weekend after a pregnant passenger delivered onboard.
“Today’s (Thursday) Emirates flight EK332 Dubai to Manila [was] diverted to
Calcutta in order to obtain medical assistance for a passenger,” an Emirates
spokesperson confirmed.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is of the highest importance and will
not be compromised.”
The passenger, who hails from Philippines, was reportedly travelling with her
husband.
She was headed to her hometown for her delivery.
According to media reports, the couple worked in Dubai as hotel staff.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that a baby was born onbaord the
same flight.
Last year, a baby boy was born on board the EK332. The flight had to make an
emergency landing in Vietnam to ensure the passenger and her baby were
administered prompt medical assistance.
The Filipino parents had then named the baby ‘EK’ after the carrier code ID
