An SMS alert about surprise cash deposits were sent to many customers of
Citibank this morning.
“An amount of USD 3366.08 from account noxxxxx is transferred to Mr Exxxx Rxxxx.
Ref no 20xxxxxxGxxx,” read the SMS, which was forwarded to Emirates24l7 by a reader.
Surprised customers, who dialled the bank’s call centre to enquire about the strange deposits, were told that it was a technical snag.
Citibank later sent another SMS apologising to customers for the inconvenience.
“Dear Client – You may have received erroneous mobile alerts today for your historical transactions. We regret the error and apologize for the inconvenience,” reads the SMS sent by the bank to its customers.
“The minute I told them about the SMS, the agent informed me that it was technical fault,”said the reader. “He told me that they had received many such calls since morning.”
