UAE bans anti-Islam video as protests continue

The UAE has banned the anti-Islam video posted on the internet that has sparked worldwide protests, daily newspaper The National reported on Tuesday.

Protesters enraged by the video that mocks Prophet Mohammad have battled with police across the Middle East and parts of Asia.

According to the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory (TRA), links to the trailer of the US made film titled “Innocence of Muslims” have been blocked.

TRA has urged residents to report any working links to Etisalat or Du, the report added.

Google, the parent company of YouTube, last week refused to take down the offending video after the US asked it to reconsider its decision to keep it online.

However, it did block the video in Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Egypt and Libya.

YouTube was also blocked across Pakistan on Monday following Google’s refusal to heed to the government’s request to remove the blasphemous film.
