Dubai: The eastern regions of the country, mainly some areas in Fujairah, parts of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, experienced medium to heavy rain on Friday afternoon. Weather forecasters have predicted similar conditions on Sunday and Tuesday.
“These rains are special as they move from one place to another, but they are locally developed,” a weather forecaster at the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News on Saturday.
“Humid, moist, and warm air coming from the Oman Sea was objected by the mountains and pushed up into the aloft, allowing condensation. It mixed with the moderately cold air mass at the medium layer of air, thereby forming convective clouds which brought the rain, associated with thunder and lightning activities in some areas,” he added.
Very heavy rains poured near the Shawka area where hail was seen as well, he said. Rains also ran deep in valleys such as Asfini, Shaikh Khalifa Street, Al Hilo Valley, Al Ojaili Valley and internal mountains.
The skies are still overcast with clouds which promise more rain in the eastern region on Sunday and Tuesday. Chances of rain are lower on Monday.
