A UAE man is suing his Russian ex-wife, claiming that she stole his frozen sperm after they had divorced, and months later gave birth to their daughter, UAE daily The National reported on Monday.
The Emirati man told the appeals court that he filed for divorce after he and the woman had sought fertility treatment twice, but failed to get pregnant.
But before the divorce was finalised she received further treatment in Russia before returning to the UAE where it is claimed she took a batch of the man’s frozen sperm without his consent, the report added.
He claims his ex-wife forged his signature to obtain his sperm, yet despite this the court ruled in the woman’s favour, requiring him to register as the newborn child’s father.
He has since tried to appeal, the report added, but failed.
"Since you have been so noble so far and accepted your daughter and registered her under your name, why don't you continue with your generosity and big heart and accept the situation?" Dr Khairi Al Kabbash, head of the appeals court, was quoted as asking the man.
The man replied that he accepted his daughter and said he would give her and the mother their ‘full rights’.
But he added: “We cannot ignore the scam done here."
The man claims that his ex-wife and the clinic that provided the sperm conspired in an illegal act, the newspaper reported.
The case was adjourned until November 7.
