The Sharjah Municipality has announced that it will enforce a power cut within
72 hours on residences and commercial establishments whose owners have not yet
registered their tenancy contracts, according to a newspaper report on
Wednesday.
Up to 25 per cent of the total number of tenancy contracts in Sharjah have
not yet been registered, the municipality announced, as reported by Arabic
newspaper Al Khaleej.
Engineer Sultan Abdullah Al Mualla, Director General of Sharjah Municipality,
said residents who fail to renew their contracts once the 72-hour grace period
has passed will suffer from power and water cuts.
Al Mualla added that the municipality is coordinating with the Sharjah
Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) to carry out the power cuts, and that
they have discussed ways in which these fees can be collected.
Al Mualla said the purpose behind the contract attestation process is to
preserve the rights of the parties involved, both tenant and owner, as well as
ensuring an environment that is free of hassles related to this process.
