Saddam Hussain has been sentenced to two months' imprisonment after he was found
guilty of selling pornographic movies.
The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has also ordered the deportation of the
26-year-old Bangladeshi worker, who has the same name as the late Iraqi leader,
after he completes his jail sentence.
Prosecutors charged Hussain with possession of and trading pirated compact
discs and DVD copies of Bollywood and Hollywood movies in violation of the
country's intellectual property rights law.
Hussain pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment.
The defendant claimed, however, that he was caught buying CDs from a
supermarket in Jebel Ali.
An Emirati policeman claimed they were informed that some illegal workers
were selling pirated and pornographic movies in Jebel Ali.
"We arrived near a mall and spotted the accused stopping pedestrians and
offering them pirated and pornographic movies for sale. We confiscated the CDs
and DVDs and arrested him. When I asked him about the possessions, he claimed
they belonged to him and that he was selling them. He claimed that he worked for
someone else," the policeman told prosecutors.
The court's verdict remains subject to appeal within nine days.
