Saudi police arrested an Arab barber for cutting off the moustache of a Saudi
customer while having a shave at his shop in the Gulf Kingdom.
The barber in the western Saudi town of Makkah was released on bail after
eight days but he would stand trial on charges of shaving off the client’s
moustaches without his consent, Okaz daily said.
It quoted the customer’s lawyer as saying he would ask court to jail the
barber for two months for causing moral damage to his client.
The lawyer, Saad Al Qahtani, told Sharq Arabic language daily he first tried
to resolve the problem out of court, adding that the barber said he was willing
to pay damages but that his client refused and insisted on trial.
The incident took place on Friday when the Saudi man, in his 40s, went into
the barber shop and asked its owner to trim his beard.
“The Saudi man’s chin was moving sideways and upside down because he was
chewing…the barber’s scissors then moved up by accident and cut part of the
man’s moustaches…this made him very furious,” Sharq said.
“The Saudi then stood up and started screaming at the barber, who pushed him
away..…the Saudi now insists on prosecuting the barber on charges of hurting his
dignity by cutting part of his moustaches.”
