Ezhaatumukham: The seven-faceted beauty

Monsoon makes the Chalakkudi river all the more beautiful. The chilled river to which people love to plunge during summer metamorphoses completely during the rainy season.

The sound of the giggling river that could be heard even from a distance reminds one of a gentle waterfall. The scenic dam and its premises have been portrayed in many Malayalam films of yesterdays.

The beautiful river, green hills, silent pastures and oilpalm plantations woo tourists towards Ezhaatumukham dam.

The village is located between the hills of Kumbalamudi and Karapottamudi. The sight of the mist slowly settling down on the Kumbalamudi hills is breathtaking. The nature-friendly Kumbalamudi village is a riverside picnic spot that has been renovated with an eye on eco-tourism.

So close is its unison with nature that the District Tourism Promotion Council, while renovating the place, has named it as the 'nature-village.'

On their way to the famous Athirappilly waterfalls, many tourists get down at Ezhattumukham to have a glimpse of the dancing waters.

The park with benches by the river side provides recreation to kids. The panoramic view from the hay laden gateway too is worth mentioning.

How to get there

Tourists coming from Ernakulam and Kottayam will have to deviate from Karayamparambu junction near Angamaly and travel through Mookkanur road to reach Ezhattumukham. The distance from Angamaly to Ezhattumukham is 21 kms. There is no bus service beyond Vetilapara bridge which is four kms away from Ezhattumukham.

By boarding the KSRTC bus from Alwaye to Athirapally, one can get down at Ezhattumukham.

There is no direct bus from Ezhattumukham to Angamaly. Private bus ply between Angamaly and Monnoorpally junction. Ezhattumukham is just three kilometres from this junction and KSRTC offers bus service in this route.

Tourists coming from Thrissur side should turn right after crossing the Vettilapara bridge in the Chalakudi-Anamala road to reach Ezhattumukham.
