Penniless barber owns a Rolls Royce

Here’s a hair-raising tale of a Bangalore-based barber who styling quotient has earner him a lifestyle makeover with Rolls Royce Ghost and a whopping 67 other cars in his garage.

Ramesh Babu, a modest barber in the city’s suburbs charges an average Rs100 for a haircut. But his rags-to-riches story has only been possible thanks to an impressive client base that features some of Bollywood’s top celebrities.

Speaking with Hindustan Times, Babu said: “Somehow, things have clicked for me,” whose regular A-listers include film stars such as Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, along with politicians and other public servants.

Babu’s certainly hit the big leagues, with now a film on his life also in the pipeline, which is expected to be released in three languages.

The barber was only nine-years-old when his father died in 1979, leaving the family in dire straits.

Shortly after, they rented out his father’s saloon on Brigade Road for a mere Rs5 per day. Forced to get a fulltime job, Babu dropped out of school after Class 10 and started working as a barber.

In 1991, he started his own salon, Inner Space, which fast became a trendsetter with Bangalore’s movers and shakers. But the real claim to fame came three years later, when Babu purchased a Maruti Omni van to rent it out.

Now, 17 years later, his car collection also includes four Mercedes, an equal number of BMWs and 50 Toyota Innovas, all of which he rents out.

Clearly, it’s time for a career change.
