Sukhram slapped Former Telecom Minister

Former Telecom Minister Sukhram was today kicked and slapped in the corridor of the court premises by an unknown assailant. The incident occured just after Sukhram was sentenced to five years rigourous imprisonment by a Delhi court for taking Rs. 3 lakh as bribe. He had taken this bribe to give a lucrative contract to a private firm in 1996. He will also have to pay a fine of Rs. 4 lakh.

The former Telecom Minister had earlier pleaded for leniency in the court on grounds of his old age, while the CBI called him a "habitual offender" and sought maximum punishment for him.
