2011 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Sharjah International Book Fair. Since 1982 the Department for Culture & Information have been committed to establishing the 10-day annual fair as a key event in the international publishing calendar. We are passionate about books and through a year-round programme of initiatives hopes to promote both cultural exchange and understanding as well as Sharjah’s own heritage and contemporary creativity.

We've had a passion for the written word since 1982, when under the continued guidance and patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, the UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; The Department of Culture & Information, wrote the first chapter of The Sharjah International Book Fair.

This 10-day annual event now draws a total of over 800 publishers showcasing books from nearly 42 nations, and attracts over 400,000 visitors.

The primary aim is to promote reading, mainly to the younger generation by making quality books available to them at affordable prices.

Sharjah is passionate about books and through a year-round programme of initiatives hopes to promote both cultural exchange and understanding as well as Sharjah’s own heritage and contemporary creativity.

Sharjah is the undisputed cultural capital of the Arab world and the reach of the book fair now extends beyond the UAE and into the International book community.


2011 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Sharjah International Book Fair.

General Organization:

- SIBF has got two main divisions, Display division and Sales division
- Both the divisions will have Arabic language and foreign language sections.

In recognition of its international standard and success, the Sharjah Int’l Book Fair has been awarded memberships to many international organizations such as Afro-Asian Book Council, Arab Publishers’ Association and GCC Book Committee. SIBF is also recognized by the International Publishers Association.
