The Ministry of Labour has proposed another three-month amnesty for illegal workers to either correct and restore their legal status or leave the country. Employers of illegal workers and infiltrators and those who give them shelter will face up to two months in jail and a Dh100,000 fine. The country has twice granted amnesty to illegal immigrants and illegal workers. One was in 1996 and the second was in 2003. At the end of the grace period any firm that continues to hire illegal will face tough fines.
Those without the copy of passport or passport particulars should furnish one or more of the following documents (in original) in support of his/her identity - Indian driving license with photograph, Election Commission ID card, ration card with photograph, labour card/work permit/health card with photograph issued by UAE authorities or certificate of identity with photograph issued by collector/Superintendent of Police of the district from where the applicant hails.
The Ministry of Interior will not ban illegal residents who avail themselves of the amnesty.A booklet outlining steps to obtain the amnesty is to be issued by the Ministry of Labour by the end of next week
