Motorists whose driving licences are suspended by court orders and are caught
driving shall face a jail and fines.
“The recent amendment of the Federal Traffic Law of 2007 allowed courts to
suspend driving licences for different periods. Those whose licences are
suspended cannot drive during the suspension periods and should they violate the
suspension will face not more than three months jail term and not less than
Dh5,000 fine,” warned Chief Traffic Prosecutor, Salah Bu Farousha Al Falasi.
The Dubai Traffic Court suspended 1,314 driving licences in 2012 in response
to the Dubai Prosecution request for ‘dangerous driving’, he noted.
The Traffic Court ordered the suspension of 67 licences after the drivers
were convicted of being guilty in fatal accidents.
Fifteen motorists had their licences suspended for one year and the rest had
suspensions varied between six and three months, said Al Falasi.
The court also suspended licences of 997 motorists for driving under the
influence of alcohol and 38 for driving under the influence of drugs.
Licences of 212 were suspended for other traffic-related violations.
